A venture into deck-builders, Sigil is based on the Elder Futhark, or the original Norse runic alphabet. According to legend, Odin, the king of the gods, hung suspended upside down from the World Tree, bleeding from a spear wound, for nine days and nights. On the final day, the mysteries of the runes were revealed to Odin, and he could use their wisdom to pierce the shroud of the future. Writing in general was looked upon with awe, those who could read being likened to mages and sorcerers, able to partake of accumulated knowledge. This game is an attempt to capture that feeling. The more varied the runes you learn, the more options you will have available to you as the game progresses. Players take turns buying new runes, casting spell runes, and building phrases for even more powerful effects. In the end, the player who has planned ahead is the player who will win, so choose your runes carefully!
The game play is simple and straightforward. There different effects on each Spell Rune. You determine what effects are activated by A) which color Charges are used to cast that rune, and B) what other Spell Runes were cast that turn. The objective is to reduce your opponent's Wards to 0 before they do the same to you.
